Matched content Ads in Google AdSense will shutdown Starting March 1, 2022
Recently Google AdSense team announced that they will shut down the matched content ads starting from March 1, 2022. Instead, they rename this ad unit to “Multiplex ads“. So, learn what’s new and how it affects your Adsense income.
So, if you don’t know what is a matched content ad then let me explain this to you.
Matched content ad is a recommendation service that offers you a simple way to promote your content to your site visitors and earlier it is only available to limited users with high traffic on websites.
It allowed you to embed a widget on your pages, especially at the end of blog posts that looks at the content relevancy of your web page and then shows relevant articles or pages from your website in the widget box.
And in between your content, it shows some sponsored article links that look exactly like it was another blog post from your website.
But, due to decreasing usage of the matched content ads, customer feedback, and performance results from the ads-only Matched content ad format, Google decided to replace this ad unit with a new ad unit called “Multiplex ads”.
And the Good News is that this will be available to all users and you don’t need any traffic requirements for this.
So, after March 1, 2022 all existing matched content ads will be automatically converted to only show ads. This also applies to Matched content units that have the “Monetize with Ads” option turned off.
What you need to do
According to Google, You don’t need to do anything if you’re satisfied with Matched content units to only show ads starting March 1, 2022. Otherwise, you can remove the Matched content code from your pages before this change happens.
Here are the important changes
- Rebranding Matched content to “Multiplex ads”, to align with the ad format that’s available on Google Ad Manager.
- Removing the eligibility restrictions that currently apply to Matched content. The new format will be available to all AdSense publishers.
- Removing the Sites and then Matched content page from the AdSense interface.
- Updating the Matched content unit editor to show the new ads-only format.
- (Lab participants only) Turning off the ads-only Matched content AdSense Lab and marking it as retired.
You can check the complete Announcement about this on the official site.
It may affect the earnings of sites that are already using these matched content ads on their sites as the Click-through rate (CTR) is quite high in these types of ads.
From that date, it will only show ads and doesn’t show blog posts in between ads and the ad unit will be renamed to “Multiplex ads“.
But, the new Ad unit will be available to all users which will help increase ad revenue in new sites.
Do you like this new Update from Adsense or not, do let me know in the comment section.
